Raxium, a five-year-old startup with MicroLED technology that might be important in constructing a new generation of augmented, virtual, and mixed reality headsets, was bought by Google today, according to Google hardware executive Rick Osterloh.
This adds to the evidence that Google’s next big AR move is getting closer: the company already acquired North in 2020 and is apparently employing developers to construct an augmented reality operating system. In January, we learnt that Google Labs is working on an augmented reality headset named “Project Iris,” which is being developed by the same team that worked on the Project Starline high-resolution video chat prototype presented at Google’s I/O event last year.
